PM, health officials warn Canadians against believing COVID-19 'internment camps' disinformation

Disinformation campaign falsely suggests Canadians will be forcibly sent to quarantine sites

Canadians will not be forced into COVID-19 internment or containment camps, a spokesperson for Health Minister Patty Hajdu said Tuesday — taking aim at a disinformation campaign that has been circulating on social media for weeks.

The claim that the federal government is preparing to forcibly intern Canadians is patently false, the spokesperson said.

The federal government has announced funding for voluntary quarantine sites for some of the country's homeless and has made plans to expand self-isolation capacity for returning international travellers without suitable places to go, but Canadians will not be compelled to leave their homes for so-called COVID "camps."
"The answer is no, we're not building containment or internment camps," the spokesperson told CBC News.

What do governments need internment camps for? We have been interned (quarantined) in our homes for months. To ensure we complied, our governments closed all but essential services so we had nowhere to gather.

Why would governments need internment camps? We were quarantined in our homes for months. To ensure we complied, our governments closed all but essential services, so we had nowhere to gather.

The problem is that government action is a classic example of too little too late. Canada knew about a contagious virus outbreak in China in December 2019. On January 23, 2020, China closed down major cities in Hubei province (Wuhan lockdown) to combat the virus. No travel in or out was allowed – except for international travel, which was not restricted.

From mid-January to mid-March 2020, the World Health Organization and Health Canada assured us that the novel coronavirus risk was very low. The assurances were wrong.

In late January 2020, the government estimated that we had 20,000 international travellers from China arriving each week, and we did not have the resources or human resources to screen them.

On March 17, 2020, Canada declared a coronavirus emergency and closed borders to international flights. By then, we had two months of travellers from Asia and Europe who had spread coronavirus all over Canada.

During those two months, we made no effort to screen international travellers for symptoms or ensure that they quarantined for 14 days to avoid infecting others. Health Canada had no idea how many people were infected, where they lived or where they had infected others before moving on.

The “first wave” was an exercise in the discovery of who already had coronavirus infections. Some were assessed as COVID-19 positive by clinic or hospital staff and others by telephone interview assessments. We did not have the capacity for full contact tracing of people considered active cases. Most were in self-quarantine at home, along with their immediate families.

Lest anyone think conditions have improved, we still get a couple of hundred international travellers every week, all deemed essential business. Our protective net against new infections has gaping holes. Instead of recognizing and dealing with the gaps in protection, our government blames residents for hanging out in bars.

Infectious disease specialists have been unable to prevent the spread of the common cold and several flu variants. We are now entering the annual flu season. That is an admission that many viruses defy control. How can we expect to control coronavirus when we cannot control many related viruses? Our response is illogical.

Throughout this mess, our methods of combatting coronavirus spread have been half-hearted and half-vast. We restrict travel but allow travel for essential purposes without defining what essential is. A trucker with a steel load for a manufacturing plant is essential, but attending a family funeral is not.

The frightening aspect is that coronavirus outbreaks in recent days have been in personal care facilities and hospitals. We saw the devastation and deaths (over 7,000) in personal care facilities in April and May, and we have not taken steps to ensure the safety of those who survived? We now have outbreaks in hospitals that are our last line of defence in treating COVID-infected people.

It appears that the clueless are leading the blind. Our governments have abandoned us to medical people in over their heads. We focused on isolating everyone instead of ensuring that infected people were quarantined. We allow travellers to enter the country without screening or mandatory quarantine, which is ludicrous.

The term quarantine is derived from 16th-century language when ships were held offshore for 40 days to ensure sailors and their cargo did not carry ‘black death’ infections. We have grown so sophisticated we have forgotten the most fundamental defences against infectious diseases.

Correct... for now they are internment hotels, owned by the Chinese (at least Radisson is owned by the CCP).

Or the Hotel CommieCanuckeh,

You can check out any time but you can never leave!
Blessed be the Lord my God, who teacheth my hands to fight,
and my fingers to war.
