Why will no one ask the tough questions?

In all the storm and fury over government contacts with the WE charity, we have lost sight of key elements of this organization. From the WE Charity web site:

In the US, Canada, and the UK, WE Day and WE Schools are initiatives of WE Charity that educate and empower young people. WE Schools is a year-long service-learning program that nurtures compassion in students and gives them the tools to create transformative social change.

Is educating and empowering our young people not the objective of our faith-based, private, and public school systems? If it isn’t, why not? We pour hundreds of millions into our educations systems to ensure our young people are equipped to deal with the real world and its problems.

The WE charity should not be better equipped to educate our children than the educators we pay handsomely to do that job. There is something wrong about the relationship between the WE charity and our school systems.

The latter part of the quotation from the WE Charity web site is troubling: “and gives them the tools to create transformative social change.” Precisely what transformative change is being taught? Has the content of this “toolbox” been evaluated by educational authorities? If it has been and found acceptable why is it not included in our classroom curriculums?

Precisely what is being transformed? From what to what? This looks very much like an exercise in social engineering or may be more sinister. Is the shift from capitalism to socialism? We don’t know what the WE charity is about, but governments have been shoveling money into the charity. We can suspect that grants were made without due diligence in assessing what exactly was being presented and how children would benefit.

It is disconcerting that the WE charity has announced it is scaling back operations in North America. Is it because it does not want too close a scrutiny of its operations?

We need to be cautious, and wary when any organization targets school children who are eager, enthusiastic, inquisitive, trusting, naïve, and vulnerable. It is our job as responsible adults to ensure that they are not led astray.

It is worrying that no one is asking the tough questions. No one is asking who authorized the WE charity to engage our school children. Something does not smell right.

The engagement of vulnerable children is important. Departments of Education, school boards and school administrations have some explaining to do. They play a part in this scandal.

Tack on another $912M in a sweet contract. How can a "charity" speculate on real estate tax free?

As usual, it's central Canada. Nothing will be done.
