Help Fight Climate Change

Post by Free Markets »

For those who believe that CO2 emissions are causing global warming, an exciting new way of fighting the problem has arrived. Do your bit and tie one on every night.

"For centuries, vodka has been made by fermenting grains like corn and wheat, a process that naturally results in carbon emissions. The Brooklyn-based startup Air Co. thinks it’s found a better way, distilling the spirit from nothing more than water and carbon dioxide, in a process that transforms the CO² into ethyl alcohol. Not only does Air Vodka (starting at $65 for 750 ml) do the trick in a Moscow mule, but it’s also carbon negative: for every bottle that’s produced, the company’s NASA-award-winning technology removes about a pound of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere."

Our climate is 100% determined by the sun and our position/relation to it. The utter notion that anything we meaningless ants do on a microdot hurtling through space at 76,00 mph actually has any effect on the climate is stultifying beyond words.

I’m always glad that most people are in charge of absolutely nothing whatsoever important which matters a whit or one iota to anything.

Everyone locally is out parading in the streets over swanky new electric buses... which are recharged daily 100% by 4 coal burning power plants west of the city. :))

Hook up some of these gizmos to the coal fired plants to provide CCS everyone can live with. A couple of quarts of vodka arrive with the monthly bill.

Would be just our luck if scientists came up with a scheme to deflect sunlight to cool the planet, then a few years into it, we hit a natural cooling cycle (thanks to the Sun) and plunged into an ice age which will be hundreds of times worse for the population of the earth than a tiny rise in sea levels. Once again, much ado about nothing. Or almost nothing.

The electric grid in most of the world is a lot cleaner and more efficient than most internal combustion engines. Think about it -- you've never heard of anybody suggesting a giant combustion engine for a power plant.

If I was a (successful) screenwriter I might pitch a scifi movie where the Earth is plunged into an ice age, and authorities scramble to pump as much CO2 as possible into the atmosphere.
